Food Scrap Recycling

Location: Holly Hill Recycling Center – 4 Holly Hill Lane Greenwich, CT (PERMITT REQUIRED)

In partnership with Waste Free Greenwich, Greenwich Recycling Advisory Board and Greenwich Green & Clean, the Town initiated a voluntary, drop-off food scrap recycling program in June 2020. Food scraps are one of the largest components of our waste stream, and composting this material directs nutrients and carbon into the ground to increase soil health, reduces reliance on fertilizers and improves water and nutrient retention. In just its first year, the program diverted over 36 tons, or 72,820 lbs of food scraps from incineration. For further information on program guidelines and procedures, please Click Here.

Recycling

Town of Greenwich promotes single stream recycling. All acceptable recyclables can be placed together in one bin. Recycling helps us to convert our old products into new useful products. In other words, it is good for the environment. Since we are saving resources and are sending less trash to the landfills, it helps in reducing air and water pollution. Waste has a huge negative impact on the natural environment. Harmful chemicals and greenhouse gasses are released from rubbish in landfill sites. Help us help you save our planet. Please see the PDF for the list of household recyclables can be collected by our refuse collection team.
